FANEM receives the 2005 R&D Excellence Trophy

Bilitron® 3600, after being internationally recognized as the smallest phototherapy equipment ever designed, has granted once again to the Brazilian company Fanem® a distinguished place within medical-hospital area, particularly the neonatology sector. For such equipment the company was awarded the 2005 R&D Excellence Trophy, Medical equipment category, offered by the yearbook Informática Hoje, published by Plano Editorial.
The award was given in the end of October, in an event in which Mr. Djalma Luiz Rodrigues, Fanem senior industrial officer was honored.
Bilitron® is the 7th generation system in phototherapy since the first one launched by Fanem in 1969, being an important instrument used to fight jaundice and hyperbilirubinemia in neonates.
Quite remarkable, this equipment has several additional functions, which are an innovation in its area, such as micro-processor control system, radiometer equipped with optical probe, light tuning device, as well as a database system providing reports and information on the data obtained. In addition, it has the most recent technology to light emission intended to phototherapy treatment, the Super LEDs.
With the model Bilitron® 3600, the company has given a significant contribution to prevent jaundice in neonates, since approximately 60% to 70% of them develop a marked jaundice, usually with a benign and reversible evolution. In extreme cases, hyperbilirubinemia (high concentration of a pigment produced by the infant red blood cells) may cause problems to the neonate nervous central system, and may even lead to death or other permanent complications.
Thus, its treatment has become safer and more effective with the use of Bilitron® 3600.
