Walter Schmidt Trophy
This trophy promotes the acknowledgment of the most distinguished performance in health promotion within the country during the year in which it is granted.
On the night of the 12th, the Walter Schmidt Trophy was given to Prof. Said Jorge Calil, Ph.D., Unicamp teacher and coordinator for the course of Clinical Engineering of this University, during the awarding event of Hospital Best 2005, in São Paulo.
The honored teacher has graduated in Electrical Engineering (Mackenzie University Mackenzie-1970); has a Master degree in Medical Electronics (Medical Electronics Department -Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London, England, Sept/79 to Sept/80); and a Doctor degree in Biomedical Engineering (Department of Medical Engineering & Physics King’s College Medical School – University of London, England, Sept/80 to Nov/84).
“Being granted such award is not only an acknowledgement of my work, but also to the profession of medical engineer, which although a new one, it is rising in importance. As a result, it has a very special meaning”, declared Prof. Said Jorge Calil, Ph.D.
Created in 2002, the Walter Schmidt trophy was granted to Dr. Geraldo Alckmin, governor of the State of São Paulo, in 2003, to Dr. Gonçalo Vecina Neto – Anvisa – National Health Surveillance Agency - Chief-Executive-Officer, and last year to Dr. Waleska Santos, president and founder of the Hospital Fair + Forum.
To promote within Brazilian health community information on the extraordinary work done by Walter Schmidt, the entrepreneur who is remembered for the institution of such trophy, the “Health Virtual Museum” was inaugurated, displaying his biography and photos, along with his work. Such pages will be a permanent part of the website of ABMS – Brazilian Association for Health Marketing. (Click here to see images)
